Electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming more and more popular, with about 60% growth of sales each year from 2014 to 2018. E-mobility has also recently gained wider economic and political support. On the political side, recent legislation passed in Congress allocates funding to building more robust EV charging infrastructure. From an economic standpoint, many automotive manufacturers are moving towards electric vehicles, with General Motors announcing in early 2021 the plan to completely phase out production of gas- and diesel- powered vehicles by 2035.

Ideal Tridon specializes in clamps and connectors, and the company has a large customer base in the automotive industry, mostly with applications in internal combustion engines. So, Ideal Tridon is looking to get involved in e-mobility. I will be evaluating how Ideal Tridon can best play in the e-mobility space based off of the company’s current product offerings, as well as the potential to engineer new EV-specific products or acquire a relevant company.
