Capstone Project Abstract:
NeuroBell, an Irish MedTech start-up, is dedicated to developing technologies for the early detection of neonatal brain injury. Each year, 140 million infants are born, and two million of these suffer brain injuries during or after birth. Notably, seizures occur in 50% of neonates with brain injuries, but these seizures are difficult to detect and often only exhibit subtle signs. NeuroBell's flagship product, the Luna EEG Monitor, is a portable, easy-to-use neonatal EEG monitor equipped with on-board AI seizure detection.
This project aims to gain a deeper understanding of the US healthcare landscape for neonatal brain monitoring and to identify the optimal approach for integrating the Luna EEG Monitor into clinical workflows within Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs). The primary goal is to establish a strategic pathway for its introduction to the US market. Key objectives include analyzing market dynamics and healthcare economics, developing a comprehensive go-to-market strategy, and outlining a product roadmap with future feature enhancements.
Why did you choose ESTEEM?
I chose ESTEEM to complement my technical engineering background with the entrepreneurial skills needed to bring meaningful innovations to market. While I’ve always enjoyed the problem-solving and creativity that come with engineering, I’ve realized that what excites me most is seeing how ideas can evolve into real solutions that positively impact people’s lives. ESTEEM’s focus on hands-on learning offers the ideal environment to grow beyond my technical foundation and develop as a leader. I was also drawn to the strong sense of community at Notre Dame, and I knew ESTEEM would be an incredible place to grow both professionally and personally.
What do you hope to do after ESTEEM?
After ESTEEM, I hope to work in a field where I can make a meaningful impact. I’m particularly drawn to medtech for its potential to improve quality of life, but I’m also excited by the idea of applying my engineering and entrepreneurial skills to other mission-driven industries. Wherever I go next, I want to work alongside inspiring individuals on innovative solutions that have the power to improve people’s lives and shape a better future.
What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I love staying active and social through sports. I’ve played basketball and Gaelic football all my life, and I really cherish the friendships I’ve made through both. I also like to unwind by going for walks or cooking with friends. I love to travel whenever I get the chance and hope to explore more of the U.S. while I’m at ESTEEM.
