Capstone Project Abstract:
Atmo Biosciences has developed the world’s first ingestible gas-sensing capsule to non-invasively assess gastrointestinal (GI) motility, offering new insights into digestive health.. This capstone project explores how the technology could be applied to support patients using GLP-1 receptor agonists, medications which are increasingly prescribed for obesity and type 2 diabetes, but frequently discontinued due to GI side effects such as nausea, vomiting, and delayed gastric emptying. The project aims to evaluate whether Atmo’s capsule can provide actionable insights to personalize dosing, monitor GI response over time, and improve treatment adherence. This will involve validating the clinical and commercial need through stakeholder interviews, conducting a competitive analysis of GI monitoring tools, and financial modeling to assess revenue opportunities. It will also define minimum viable product (MVP) features, explore regulatory pathways for prescription and potential over-the-counter (OTC) use, and propose go-to-market strategies. Ultimately, the goal is to determine whether this technology can deliver actionable insights that significantly enhance adherence and transform patient outcomes in GLP-1 therapy.
