Emma Hayes

Class of 2020-2021

Saint Anselm College, 2020

Why I chose ESTEEM:

When I was a senior in college, I didn't know what I wanted to do but I knew I wanted to make a difference, somehow, somewhere. One of my undergraduate advisors suggested the ESTEEM program and as soon as I learned more about it, I knew this was the right place for me. ESTEEM is committed to fixing things that matter and that aligns extremely well with my own core values. I am extremely pleased with my choice to join ESTEEM and now I cannot picture myself anywhere else.

My capstone project and why I'm excited about it:

My capstone project is with GEO Continuum of Care, working on a pro-social virtual reality and gaming series aimed at filling in counseling and programming gaps post-incarceration. Currently, the recidivism rate in the United States is extremely high and individuals do not always receive the appropriate amount of support, so I am hoping that this project can make at least a small dent in this immense problem. I am so excited to be working on a project that is outside of my comfort zone and will challenge me to question my own convictions as well as work to make the lives of others better.

What I hope to do after ESTEEM:

After ESTEEM, I hope to work in healthcare, specifically with companies focused on improving health outcomes for individuals with rare diseases. I am looking forward to bring all the skills I learn in ESTEEM to wherever I go next.

What I like to do when I'm not working:

I love hanging out with my friends and family and exploring new places. I also really enjoy being outside and going on adventures with my friends to find all the great nature places around us!
