Why I chose ESTEEM:

I chose ESTEEM because I've always had an interest in entrepreneurship - I started my first company when I was 11 years old and continued to run it throughout school and my Undergraduate degree. I had a fantastic experience in running a company, and dealing with time management, stress, customers, suppliers and everything in between. I really enjoyed being able to decide myself where I wanted to bring the company. I wanted to get more formal business education and experience, so ESTEEM felt like the perfect fit!

My capstone project and why I’m excited about it:

My Capstone project with Avanade is focused on leveraging data across enterprises to enable them to make more informed decisions and mitigate data siloes. I worked previously with Accenture, who own Avanade, and I became interested in data analytics, specifically the use of data to increase the efficiency of a company. I'm excited about the project because the tools that Avanade have are a perfect fit for me to work on the use of data within large corporations.

What I hope to do after ESTEEM:

Part of my aim this year is to really explore different career options. Long term, I definitely want to start my own company, and I want to get experience in working in industry first. I've always had an interest in sustainability and climate change, and studying Mechanical Engineering has made me realize just how important and complex an issue it is. To me, it's the most important issue of our generation, but its effects are not always immediate which can make progress in solving the issue slow. I'd like to work in this space and use my skills to ensure that we can live in a sustainable way in the future.

What I like to do when I’m not working:

When I'm not working, I really enjoy long-distance running. I like to push myself in everything I do, and running is no different. Back in Ireland, I loved going running with my dog in the countryside - it's much more enjoyable than running in a busy city. I also really enjoy traveling on a budget, because it forces you to find the destinations that aren't flocked with tourists. I plan to travel around the US and other parts of the world in a similar way.
