Capstone Project Abstract: 

This Capstone is focused on discovering the applications of a wide-angle spectral filter for energy-saving windows in the current window marketplace. The technology was developed by Professor Tengfei Luo and the MONSTER Lab at Notre Dame. This performance enhancement could significantly reduce indoor cooling demands and energy usage in both residential and commercial settings. The student will conduct in-depth research to understand the architectural glass and window film industry, including stakeholder mapping, performance benchmarking, and analysis of relevant product metrics. Through interviews with industry professionals and financial modeling, the project will explore potential go-to-market strategies such as licensing or new venture creation. The final deliverable will be a validated launch strategy that reflects real-world industry feedback and positions the product for successful market entry.

Why did you choose ESTEEM?

I chose the ESTEEM program because it offers a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between engineering and business. What draws me most is the chance to continue building technical skills relevant to my engineering background while also gaining a strong understanding of how businesses operate and what drives their success. This combination is essential as I prepare to enter the industry, where the ability to think both technically and strategically is increasingly valuable. Through ESTEEM, I can deepen my engineering expertise while developing the business acumen needed to contribute meaningfully to innovative, real-world solutions.

What do you hope to do after ESTEEM? 

After ESTEEM, I hope to work as an engineer, ideally in a highly technical industry like semiconductors. I have always had a dream to work in a field that helped to drive innovation downstream. To me, ESTEEM is a great opportunity to learn to analyze businesses, and I hope that after ESTEEM, I can use the skills I build here to make sure I am working on projects that will truly push technology forward.

What do you like to do in your free time?

In my free time, I like to listen to live music, hike, cook, and scuba dive when I can.
