Why I chose ESTEEM: Reid Hoffman defined an entrepreneur as someone who jumps off a cliff and builds a plane on his way down. For this plane to successfully stay afloat and soar higher into the sky three things are critical, the two wings of the plane and the main engine. For me, the two wings represent the technology & business skills and the engine represents the financial acumen. With more than three years of industrial experience in Manufacturing & Design at Atlas Copco and Four Eyes Research, I felt that I had only the technological wing. And in order to build this plane, I had to go for the two other parts. And here is where I felt the need for an integrated program that could help me develop expertise and skills in the three areas of technology, business, and finance and hence the ESTEEM Program.
My capstone thesis project and why I’m excited about it: In India where health insurance is not widespread ,cancer patients especially those that are poor, have to grapple with the prohibitive cost of cancer treatment .The treatment sometimes can even wipe out life savings. One of the reasons for cancer therapy being costly is the fact that cancer therapy equipment can be very expensive especially if the associated technology is new to the medical field. My thesis project revolves around an advanced HIPEC Chemotherapy machine. We are working on bringing down the acquisition cost of the equipment in the hands of the Doctor to less than 20 % of the current equipment available in the market . Thus reducing the cost of surgery in turn reducing the cost reflected on patients. The equipment is in its prototype stage and we aim to launch it in early 2018. My The thesis Involves identifying a go to market approach and developing a business plan for the market launch strategy for the equipment. I want to do a small amount of good for a large amount of people....may be this is my first step in this direction.
What I hope to do after ESTEEM: My ultimate aim is to implement cutting-edge technologies from the field of advanced manufacturing and management skills acquired from the ESTEEMprogram to start my own manufacturing unit in India developing medical products that can augment human capabilities and have a great impact in the medical field.
What I like to do when I’m not working in Innovation Park: Photo editing, write scripts for my stand-up routines, and play cricket with other students from India.
