Class of 2019-2020
Miami University, 2019
Why I chose ESTEEM:
For most of my undergraduate experience, I believed the only way to make a difference in people's lives was to become a physician. As I started to back away from the idea of medical school my senior year, I began to think about my passion for medicine/healthcare, my love for business, and my desire to improve other's lives. I looked for an opportunity that would combine these three things; ESTEEM bridged the gaps between them perfectly. Through ESTEEM, I have not only utilized my undergraduate education to fix things that matter but I have also met incredible people on the journey. Finally, the ESTEEM staff was amazing throughout the application process!
My capstone project and why I'm excited:
During ESTEEM, I will be conducting my capstone with BI Incorporated, the world's leading electronic monitoring company within the community corrections space. BI Inc. provides a range of monitoring technologies and services to parolees, probationers, pretrial defendants, and illegal aliens involved in the immigration process. Through the capstone, I will be assisting the team in providing new ways to detect and flag prohibited drug/alcohol use through BI's current ankle bracelet technology. When looking for a project, I wanted to make a difference in the lives of others while working in an established and successful company. BI Inc. was a perfect match; I look forward to using my previous educational background in combination with great mentorship to provide innovative solutions and improve the community corrections space.
What I hope to do after ESTEEM:
Though I'm not too sure of exactly what I want to do in the professional workspace, I plan on entering the healthcare industry after ESTEEM, specifically Biotech or Pharma. I hold interests in consulting as well as the start-up space. One day, I hope to launch a company of my own. No matter what path I choose, I want to make a difference in people's lives!
What I like to do when I'm not working:
Aside from hanging out with my lovely friends, family, and 3 golden retrievers, I love watching Netflix//Hulu, playing sports, and cooking. My favorite TV show, as cringeworthy as it may be, is The Bachelor. My favorite food is ice cream. I'm very fortunate to live 30 seconds from Dairy Queen. Also, I love a good beer and wing Wednesday at Brothers!
I can beat Chuck Rioux 1-on-1 in basketball.
