Class of 2017-2018

University of Maryland Baltimore County, 2017

Why I chose ESTEEM: ESTEEM offers so many amazing opportunities and avenues to success. All of the advisors are so empowering because they genuinely believe every single one of us can make a difference by using our scientific background and applying it with new tools in an entrepreneurial environment.

My capstone thesis project and why I’m excited about it: My thesis project involves assessing the commercial potential for a new treatment of the orphan (rare) disease, the tumor lysis syndrome. I am extremely excited to be working on this project because it focuses on improving the lives of people with orphan diseases, and these types of treatments are so often overlooked. I get to talk to important physicians who are in direct contact with these patients, and I hope that the information I learn from interviewing them will allow me to extrapolate how that should form a potential business strategy.

What I hope to do after ESTEEM: My goal is to work in the biotech realm of entrepreneurship, whether it be in an early-stage start-up or an established company. I specifically want to help develop technology that ultimately will improve the lives of people with cancer and other potentially terminal diseases.

What I like to do when I’m not working in Innovation Park: When I'm not working in the Greenhouse, I love to ride my bike to the gym, try new foods, and hang out with my awesome roommates and ESTEEM friends.

Adds Emily: "Go Irish!"
