Claire Kleinschmidt

Class of 2017-2018

Providence College, 2017

Why I chose ESTEEM: After growing up in Duluth, Minnesota, I attended Providence College where I learned that engineering and physics could be empowering tools for change in developing communities around the world. I love problem-solving and want to work on implementing technologies that have the potential to not only disrupt current industries, but to support the development of human life. I chose ESTEEM over a Masters in Engineering to learn more about innovation and where science and the business world intersect, all with the goal to "make things that matter."

My capstone thesis project and why I’m excited about it: This year, I will be partnering with Indiana Biosciences Research Institute to investigate the market for Single Cell BioAnalytic devices, a new technology that could change how we understand, diagnose, and treat diseases from a cellular perspective. I am really excited about the opportunity to optimize medical innovations and be a part of this emerging field.

What I hope to do after ESTEEM: After ESTEEM, I would like to work in the biotech sector or in international development/social entrepreneurship either in the US or abroad. Eventually, I aspire to start my own venture and to continue working to empower girls in STEM fields.

What I like to do when I’m not working in Innovation Park: In my free time, I enjoy traveling, trying new spicy foods, and watching baseball. I look forward to outdoor adventures and quality time with friends!
