Why I chose ESTEEM:
I joined ESTEEM after completing ND's ACE program for two reasons. First, during my senior year I discovered design thinking and realized that everything I thought was cool about engineering is actually in design. Second, after teaching for two years, I saw many problems with current Ed Tech. By joining ESTEEM, I hoped to be able to combine both of my passions by creating Ed Tech products.
My capstone project and why I'm excited about it:
I am working with Fathom by helping them bring to market a disruptive language learning technology. I am excited to be working on this project because of my own language learning experience. In high school, I did not enjoy learning Spanish because the grammar and vocab were taught disjointly. There was very little application of the concepts. With Fathom's technology, students will have the ability to have lifelike computer-based conversations to learn a language.
What I hope to do after ESTEEM:
After ESTEEM I would like to integrate entrepreneurship with my passion for mentorship and education. Leaving the classroom has made me realize how much I enjoyed working with high school students, and I hope to be able to get back to working with them after ESTEEM. What I like to do when I'm not working:
Outside of class I enjoy playing soccer and volleyball, reading, and beating my friends in a board game. I also hope to work on a few side projects and get involved with a mentoring program around South Bend.
