Capstone Project Abstract:
The student is working on a project for Coast Southwest as they work to develop and commercialize base and customizable botanical extract solutions for the personal care and cosmetics market. Botanical extracts are widely used in this industry for benefits such as soothing, moisturizing, calming, anti‑inflammatory, and anti‑aging effects. A shift in consumer preference toward natural and sustainable ingredients has accelerated demand for these solutions. In the past, creating and scaling botanical extract offerings posed higher costs and longer lead times. However, Coast Southwest’s manufacturing capabilities in Arlington and its in‑house technical resources now provide an opportunity to deliver these products with faster turnaround and competitive pricing. Throughout this project, the student will be performing product and technology reviews, feasibility analysis, competitive landscape analysis, and crafting a go‑to‑market strategy for Coast Southwest.
Why did you choose ESTEEM?
I chose ESTEEM because I wanted to build the skills to lead and launch something meaningful. I was looking for more than just technical knowledge or business theory. I wanted to understand how to bring ideas to life in a real-world setting. What drew me to ESTEEM and Notre Dame was the hands-on, collaborative environment and the strong sense of purpose in the community. I knew it would be a place that would push me to grow both professionally and personally.
What do you hope to do after ESTEEM?
I am still exploring exactly what I want to do after ESTEEM, but I know that I want to use my background in biochemistry to make a meaningful impact. I am especially interested in applying that knowledge in industries like pharmaceuticals or chemicals, where science plays a direct role in improving lives. At the same time, I want to use the business and innovation skills I am building through ESTEEM to go beyond the lab, whether that means working in strategy, product development, or possibly launching something of my own in the future. I am open to different paths, but I am focused on finding opportunities where I can connect science with real-world impact.
What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I love to stay active and spend time outdoors. I really enjoy golfing, hiking, fishing, and riding my bike. I also like to travel and try new things, whether it is a new food, a new place, or a new activity. On the weekends, I love watching college and NFL football with my friends.
