Class of 2020-2021
Saint Edward's University, 2020
Why I chose ESTEEM:
I chose ESTEEM because I wanted a small class experience with people that are as passionate to be here as I am. I was drawn to ESTEEM by the faculty who were as excited for me to join ESTEEM as I was. When I talked with the previous cohorts, all of the past students spoke highly of the program and their experiences at Notre Dame. ESTEEM provides amazing resources to use my background and expertise to make impactful changes on the world. I believe it is the best place for me to do the most good.
My capstone project and why I'm excited about it:
For my capstone, I am working with Medtronic on their Deep Brain Stimulation project. I will be helping to find a way to make this medical device remotely accessible. This will ensure that patients can continue to receive care regardless of their ability to get to a clinic or a doctor. I am excited to work on this project because I have a passion for medical devices. Also, this medical device is intended for patients with Parkinson's Disease. I am close to someone who lives with Parkinson's Disease and I would love to be a part of the technology that could help him.
What I hope to do after ESTEEM:
After ESTEEM, I hope to continue to work with medical devices. I would like to build prosthetics that are more affordable using 3D printing. I would also like to help innovative companies develop devices and bring them to market, keeping costs low for patients while maintaining their quality of life. I believe that people have a right to health equity and I want to work to make that a reality.
What I like to do when I'm not working:
I walk with my dog miles a day. When I need to unwind I like to build things in Minecraft.
I have a dog named Rusty and I spoil him rotten.
