On Friday, April 23, 2021, the IDEA Center held the Spring 2021 Student Entrepreneur Pre-Accelerator Showcase, which was the final event of the IDEA Center’s 6-week program. The Spring Showcase featured 12 of Notre Dame’s top student-led startups who worked during the spring semester to validate and prototype their product or service. The founders were particularly seeking mentors and investors to guide and fund further development of their startups.

The event first featured 5-minute virtual pitches from the following startups:

  • Joseph Hirshorn | Alcea
  • Eddie Davis IV | Anytime Sports
  • Quinn McCahon | Athlete Digest
  • Anne Kwiatt | CANU
  • David Thompson | Doggi, LLC
  • Kaden Macor | DormBroker
  • John Sexton | EyeDriving
  • Ian Martin | Hunt Regs
  • Peter Dore | Intrvene
  • Sebastian Murgueitio | Studia.app
  • Rory Finn | SANDO
  • David Wang | XR General Hospital

One of the startups - CANU - which was created by Student Founder Anne Kwiatt MBA ’21, is focused on creating a browser extension that gives product and company data and links to alternative products that meet user’s preferences. CANU would be responding to the unmet need, that finding products that are sustainable and match consumer values is time-consuming and difficult. Another startup - DormBroker - created by Kaden Macor ND ’22, understands there is an unmet need in the realm of college students not having a centralized, easy, and safe way to buy and sell goods within their student community. DormBroker seeks to provide a solution in this space, by creating a peer-to-peer marketplace platform exclusive to college campuses.

The second half of the event included the twelve startups holding Zoom rooms for Pre-Accelerator guests to enter and speak directly with the startups. The student startups were looking for mentors and pre-seed funding to help accelerate their business, therefore, a lot of connections were made regarding resources to help the startups to keep growing!
