ESTEEM Students Win Prizes at 2011 Rice University Business Plan Competition

Congratulations to Double Domer Will McLeod and ND Alum Ryan Tatzel of Lono, LLC for winning a total of $105,500 in prizes at the 2011 Rice University Business Plan Competition this past weekend for SmarterShade. http://www.smartershade.com/


Prizes included the $100,000 Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers Prize for Clean Tech Innovation, and first place in the ELEC 394 Sheafor-Lindsay-Sinclair elevator pitch competition.   SmarterShade is a new window technology that can tint from clear to dark on command. Instead of using blinds or shades, any window, skylight or mirror can be darkened at the flip of a switch.

About the winners: William McLeod graduated in 2009 from Notre Dame with dual degrees in product design and in mechanical engineering before getting his Masters of Science in Notre Dame's new interdisciplinary ESTEEM program.  Ryan Tatzel is a 2009 graduate of Notre Dame with a degree in chemical engineering and is currently an ESTEEM student. Way to go Will and Ryan!
