Biobanks are critical resources for modern scientific research, particularly to disease researchers, pharmaceutical companies, and biotechnology researchers. Biobanks vary in size and complexity, but they typically collect and store biological samples, including plasma, DNA, red cells, whole blood or urine samples. Given its unique relationships with hospitals, Shields Capital aims to leverage its infrastructure and personal connections and create a company specialized in collecting and cataloging bio samples. Given the complexity within the biobanking industry, Shields Capital needs to determine the best path to take the new company to market. Moreover, the business model must engage with health systems to develop an enterprise solution to biobanking that is suitable and synergistic for the Shields Network.
