My capstone thesis project will investigate the application of NeoPhotonics’ short-range 3D sensors in novel medical imaging devices. My project will specifically focus on optical coherence tomography (OCT), an optical imaging technique that relies on coherent light to produce high resolution 3D images. The primary goal of the project is to identify a new market opportunity for NeoPhotonics’ technology, assess their technological capabilities and market fit, and build a business case supporting the investment. To do this, I will investigate a range of OCT markets, including but not limited to, ophthalmology, cardiology, and dermatology, and I will aim to identify the unique value proposition NeoPhotonics could provide. In parallel, I will complete a comprehensive overview of NeoPhotonics’ coherent laser technology. I will determine its suitability for OCT variations such as Swept-Source OCT and Doppler OCT, and I will identify opportunities for novel technological innovation.
