Assistant Director, Faculty
Sunny Shah is the Assistant Director of ESTEEM. He received his B.S. and Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from University of California, Davis. At ESTEEM, Sunny leads the capstone thesis experience from the matching process to creating the 11-month thesis outline. He also teaches a class on business model canvas and design thinking while encouraging students to "get out of the building" to validate their business models. Sunny also designs and plans the ESTEEM curriculum.
In addition to ESTEEM, Sunny also manages a laboratory with Dr. Hsueh Chia Chang in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. His primary responsibilities include grant writing, managing laboratory budget, establishing research collaborations and leading the technology transfer activities of various biosensing technologies being developed in the lab.
He has successfully received NSF and NIH funding including the NSF I-Corps training grant on customer discovery: principles of which have now been adopted to the ESTEEM capstone thesis curriculum.
In his spare time, Sunny enjoys rock climbing, cooking and traveling (he has spent a night on Mt. Everest base camp).
