Born and raised in Aleppo, Syria, Ralph’s desire for a world-class education brought him to the US. He attended St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas, where an interest in science and healthcare led him to pursue a B.S. in Biology. Anxious to further explore opportunities in his field, he became involved in freshwater science research, focusing on the implications of introduced species in local ecosystems. This led him to join the Texas Academy of Science, and present his research at the annual meeting in 2016. Ralph was also an active member of the club basketball team, the Pre-Dental society, and the Arabic club in his time at SEU.
Although he planned to attend to dental school upon graduation, Ralph’s desire to diversify his skill set and apply his technical background to a wider scope of problems brought him to the ESTEEM program at the University of Notre Dame. His capstone thesis will explore new markets for the Paper Analytical Device, a Notre Dame project. In doing so, he will be investigating potential applications of the technology as an improved tool for field testing of illicit drugs. Throughout his journey, he hopes to obtain a business acumen that will serve him well as a dental professional. That being said, he is open to pursuing different avenues where he can be a powerful force for good in the world.
In his spare time, Ralph enjoys playing sports with friends, discovering different cultures, and exploring music production.
