Major: Electronic and Computer Engineering
Niall was born and raised in the West of Ireland. Studying Computer Engineering was a natural choice, given his love of technology and mathematics and the influence of his two older brothers. Academia and learning came naturally to Niall and he achieved the highest results in national exams as well as annual university scholarships. However, after internships at Medtronic and Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Niall realised that his technical skills alone were not enough to pursue his passion.
He chose to enroll in the ESTEEM Program so that he could complement his technical knowledge with business acumen. For his capstone thesis project, Niall will be working with Silicon Valley based Neophotonics, on the commercialization of innovative high speed communication links in data-centres. He also plans on engaging in some voluntary consulting work for two start-ups in South Bend.
Looking to the future Niall hopes to pursue a career in either Management or Technical Consulting. He feels the opportunity to work with numerous companies in varied industries will further add to his skill set and place him in a prime position to pursue his passion for being a force for good in the world. When Niall isn’t planning his future or trying to bring about change in the world, he enjoys traveling to other countries, experiencing different cultures and meeting new people. He is also an avid supporter of Irish Rugby and a musical fanatic, playing piano and guitar.
