Alex is from Cortland Ohio, a small suburb outside of Youngstown Ohio. He studied Biochemistry and Entrepreneurship at John Carroll University, a Jesuit university in Cleveland Ohio. While studying at John Carroll University he pursued his passion for science working in research labs with the Chemistry Department and also in the department of Molecular Cardiology at the Cleveland Clinic Learner Research Institute. He also was a member of the John Carroll University collegiate golf team.
During his undergraduate education Alex discovered the world of entrepreneurship and became hooked. Ever since, he has studied all aspects of entrepreneurship and is constantly thinking in an entrepreneurial mindset based in innovation and opportunity recognition. Alex used his passion for entrepreneurship combined with dedication to service to win 1st place in the Soper Social Entrepreneurship Contest with his team who developed a business model for Urban Roots, an urban garden initiative that benefits the homeless.
Alex decided to combine his passion for entrepreneurship and science through the ESTEEM Program. He is currently working on a project to commercialize a molecular probe that allows surgeons to visualize cancerous tissue through fluorescence image guided surgery technology.
After ESTEEM Alex hopes to find a career path that integrates his intellectual curiosity, strategic thinking and ambition to make a real difference in the world. His main career interests lie in the medical device, private equity and consulting industries. In his spare time, Alex lives for adventure -- he is an avid skier, musician, golfer and outdoorsman.
