Solid State Lithium-Ion Batteries

Student: Barrett Nelson, 2017-2018

Sponsor: Prof. Paul McGinn, Engineering, Notre Dame, IN

Dr. Paul McGinn is working to develop a solid-state lithium-ion battery, to replace liquid electrolyte batteries currently in use. The new solid-state battery will have several advantages, including a faster charging rate than current batteries on the market. This battery design avoids dendrite formation, a key cause of battery explosions and fires. I will be working with Dr. McGinn to assess various markets for the solid-state battery design, and develop a business plan going forward for the technology.
