My Week in ESTEEM - Week 9


Welcome back to "My Week in ESTEEM" where students reflect upon their experiences in our program.  This week's blog is brought to us by Timothy Jacque who talks about catching up and focusing on his career search.

This week in ESTEEM was much different than my years in undergraduate. This week was spent on fall break; something that I previously did not have the opportunity to enjoy.  It was great to be able to travel and recap the previous week’s accomplishments - of finishing my oral exam for my thesis and presenting to the State of Indiana - to my family. Fall break was great because it included the USC versus Notre Dame rivalry football game and it allowed me to continue to search for a job for after graduation in May.…

Two ESTEEM Students Head to Brussels to Speak at 3D Printing Conference

Something that ESTEEM students hear all the time is “get out of the building”. This highlights the entrepreneurial importance of gaining real world experience and validation which cannot be attained within the walls of a classroom. Well, getting out of the building is exactly what Kate Bussey and Evan Doney plan to do with their fall break.

Too often in STEM based academics we must blind ourselves from the real world. We pose rational arguments for allowable ignorance of the many inconveniences of reality. The complexity of the world around us is an ever-present challenge. We make assumptions to validate answers and answers to validate assumptions. Rarely do we manage to see truth through the chaos. However, this was the objective of 39 ESTEEM students these past eight weeks “To see truth through the chaos”.

Lead by University of Notre Dame Associate Professor Jesus Izaguirre, a small team of three engineer’s work to grow the international remittance application.

Jack Nee and Jon Freise, both recent graduates of Boston College with degrees in biochemistry, chose the ESTEEM program at Notre Dame because they respect the common mission and humane values of the institutions despite their football rivalry.
