We've been talking a lot about what it takes to be a good CEO and what types of degree get you the best CEO - a sort of Business vs Engineering show down. So we decided to create an original infographic to illustrate some of the statistics about "CEO Degrees". It should also be noted that, of all those who cite themselves as a CEO or Founder on Facebook (124,977 people) only 158 have both engineering and business degrees, which is what makes the ESTEEM program all the more important.

Should a CEO be Technical?

Does it make sense for a CEO to be technical, or would startups be better served by CEOs that understand business? It's possibly a question without an answer but we do our best to show off perks for both styles of CEO.

The Case for the MBA

Aaron Patzer, founder of Mint, has said, “When valuing a startup, add $500k for every engineer, and subtract $250k for every MBA.” It turns out this sentiment is not a new thing in the Startup community and has been going around for a few years. Technical folks are seen as more valuable partially because they cost less, and because great tech folks are a harder to find; working against the norms of supply and demand.
