Jonathan (Jon) Schommer is a 2015 graduate of the ESTEEM Program. His capstone thesis created a business that provides cities with a cost-effective green infrastructure implementation plan using linear optimization. Jon explored the Bowman Creek area of South Bend as a potential pilot location to test the business model because of the neighborhood's high levels of vacant lots and combined sewer overflows. He was advised by retired South Bend Director of Public Works, Gary Gilot and Notre Dame civil/environmental engineering professor, Dr. Alan Hamlet.
Post-graduation, Jon spent a year as a Fellow at enFocus in South Bend working on contracts with the City of South Bend. Additionally, he was a leader of the Bowman Creek Educational Ecosystem, a new initiative bringing together students from South Bend Schools including Notre Dame, Indiana University South Bend, Ivy Tech, Riley High School, and Washington High School to work on revitalization projects for Bowman Creek and the surrounding neighborhood.
In May of 2016, Jon joined EmNet as a Project Manager, managing client relationships and helping the company scale services to meet growing demand.
Jon is also writing and performing original music in local venues and his music can be found at jonschommer.bandcamp.com.
