Amy Flanagan is from Dublin, Ireland where she is the middle of three children and the eldest daughter. Prior to joining ESTEEM, Amy attended Trinity College in Dublin receiving both a Bachelor and a Master Degree in Civil, Structural, and Environmental Engineering. Her Master thesis analyzed a life cycle cost analysis of an integral bridge in seismic zones.
While an undergraduate, Amy participated in a unique program called Unitech wherein she was able to study both engineering and management courses in Milan, Italy. She then followed this study with a six-month internship working on marketing for Imerys in Paris, France.
For Amy's capstone thesis project in ESTEEM she worked with Dr. Timothy Wright on Ensayo, a web-based application for disaster management. Her project specifically looked at its ability to improve disaster response training for emergency operations centers.
Amy has since started work as an Associate Consultant with Bain & Company in Chicago. Her various experiences during ESTEEM, such as helping to organize Startup Weekend Notre Dame and getting to the semi-finals of the McCloskey Business Plan competition have each prepared her with a different skill set that she continues to use today.
Outside of the classroom Amy enjoys field hockey and sailing. She is a trained powerboat instructor and has spent several summers teaching sailing at a camp in Maine.
