Emily joined the ESTEEM Staff right before Thanksgiving, 2015. Her return to paid employment came after over 20 years as a full-time homeschooling mother of three. With her youngest child finishing up her education at home and anticipating college, Emily was ready to work outside of the home again.
When asked where she "is from," Emily hesitates to answer. It's complicated -- and involves growing up in New Zealand, a move back to the States to eastern Pennsylvania, another move to Maryland (metropolitan D.C.)... and then college and young adulthood in Salem, Massachusetts -- followed by a relocation to Chapel Hill, North Carolina and, in 2012, a move to Northern Indiana. All of these places have something to offer, but Emily is most happy to call The Bend home.
Emily has traveled extensively both domestically (she has only three States left to visit) and abroad. She has even had the wonderful privilege of living in England for several months, on two separate occasions. So far her international travel has included much of the U.K., multiple cities/countries in Europe, and a handful of Latin American destinations, and she looks forward to more travel in her future -- seeing new places and hopefully re-visiting a few of her favorites.
Prior to beginning her homeschool-mom career, Emily was employed by a variety of companies and institutions. She started out as a travel agent and then worked in a high-tech Cambridge start-up. After that she worked in a Boston tertiary-care hospital (in the General Counsel's office) and finished up her paid employment with a job in the Admissions Office of a small liberal arts college.
Emily graduated some time in the last century from Gordon College (Wenham, MA) with a Bachelor's degree in History. She loves to sing with others and has ideas of hosting regular "Musical Evenings" in her home. She has more recently discovered a passion for Latin social dancing. It pleases Emily greatly to be living where she can walk or ride her bicycle to almost everywhere she needs or wants to go. Finally, her favorite place on the Notre Dame campus is the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, and she can give anyone who is interested a personalized tour -- just give her a holler!
